Collioure

It was time to see Collioure. We travelled in Béa’s silver convertible and let our hair blow back just like in the movies. Two dizzy heads: she forgot about a parking ticket and I not being accustomed to convertibles left my bag of essentials on the back seat. Local police were there to greet us on our return but fortunately there was no mention of parking without due care. It was a beautiful sunny day. We dined at La Marine where we had a feast of mussels with spaghetti followed by ice cream cones from the pop up shop around the corner. We met young naval cadets with their faces camouflaged with rare shades of green paint. Later Béa pulled a fast one on me and had me photographing what I thought were dolphins swimming to shore. I should have known dolphins would follow the boat not swim ahead like our young naval recruits.

Colliure was everything I had hoped for and more. It is blessed with natural beauty and is a haven for artists and art enthusiasts. Some famous artists have painted there, among them  Henri Matisse, Pablo Picasso, Charles Rennie Mackintosh, and Salvadore Dali. Collioure became the home of the Fauvist Movement because of the rare quality of the light

At the back of this winery, a rare sight of wine basking in sunshine caught my eye.Apparently wine here is produced totally by hand.
